Panafric Environment Foundation (PANEF)
Environmental solutions that start with people.
Panafric Environment Foundation (PANEF) is a Kenyan non-governmental organisation. Social scientists, engineers, policy experts, sociologists, academics, climate resilience specialists and project managers founded it with one simple goal. We want climate change to be understandable, practical and solvable for the everyday mwananchi.
- Community participation and local ownership
- Evidence-informed environmental action
- Inclusive solutions for women, youth and vulnerable households
- Partnerships that strengthen long-term sustainability
Our Programmes
Environmental solutions that start with people.
Unpredictable rainfall
The long and short rains now often start late, end early or fail, disrupting farming and grazing cycles.
More frequent droughts
Droughts are occurring more often and lasting longer. Households sell animals at very low prices to survive.
Rising temperatures
Heat stress cuts productivity and raises health risks for people and animals.
Where we work
Grounded in local realities.
Our core focus is the 23 recognised arid and semi-arid counties. PANEF and its team have also worked in towns and counties across Kenya and the wider East Africa and Great Lakes region.
